AEM launches safety campaign for utilities

Milwaukee – Underground utility workers are the focus of an upcoming national campaign aimed at saving lives and preventing property damage.

The Association of Equipment Manufacturers announced the Underground Utility Damage Prevention Campaign on Feb. 16. The campaign will be a collaborative effort across the industry to help promote best practices and demonstrate safe, efficient and effective underground utility installations.

The campaign will cover multiple types of machinery, such as horizontal directional drills, vacuum excavators, trenchers and other underground equipment.

AEM said the campaign has two primary goals:

  • Fight against common myths and misperceptions with regard to underground utility installation
  • Equip workers with additional resources for improved skills, knowledge and awareness

“We want to involve the widest possible scope of industry groups and stakeholders and work together to educate and promote safe utility installation, repair and maintenance,” William Bernhard, AEM’s technical and safety services manager, said in a press release.
