New PSA helps people with disabilities prepare for emergencies

Washington – A new public service announcement from FEMA aims to help people with disabilities prepare for emergencies.

The campaign coincides with the 25th anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

“No two days are alike,” the ad begins. “So, every day, you prepare.”

The two-minute advertisement focuses on the Ready Campaign’s four components of emergency preparedness: be informed, make a plan, build a kit and get involved. Features on the PSA include open captioning, a certified deaf interpreter, and an audio description of the ad to inform viewers who are blind or have reduced vision.

“Everyone can and should think about their specific needs and prepare for the kinds of emergencies that can happen where they live, work or visit,” Ad Council President and CEO Lisa Sherman said in a press release. “Our hope is that this campaign encourages everyone to think ahead and be prepared.”
