Vienna, VA – The annual Drive Safely Work Week, presented by the Network of Employers for Traffic Safety, is scheduled for Oct. 5-9.

This year’s campaign emphasizes taking time to plan every journey, even those that seem routine; taking precautions to ensure you will be focused and alert while driving; and discussing long-term plans for yourself and family members about aging and how it might affect driving.

Materials are available for organizations to use throughout the week to promote planning ahead and driving safety.

NETS Chairperson Joe McKillips, who also is director, global commercial environment, health and safety at Abbott Park, IL-based Abbott Laboratories, said the goal of the campaign is to reduce crashes among the workforce, family members and community members.

“Your participation in this campaign can make a big difference,” McKillips wrote in a letter to employers. “In the U.S. alone, employers have the opportunity to directly reach more than half of the driving population – even more when information is extended to employee family and community members.”
