National Safety Council announces new criteria for Green Cross for Safety awards

Now is the time to nominate outstanding organizations and individuals for the National Safety Council Green Cross for Safety awards – and for the first time, the program is expanding to encompass safety achievements in homes and communities, and in transportation.

Nominations will be accepted through Jan. 15 at greencross.nsc.org.

NSC will present awards in three categories:

  • Safety Excellence: In recognition of a corporation, coalition or organization that developed a safety solution that saves lives and prevents injuries
  • Safety Innovation: In recognition of an individual, corporation, coalition or organization that has adopted an innovative approach and achieved evidence-based success
  • Safety Advocate: In recognition of an individual who has made a substantial personal impact to raise awareness about a safety issue and prevent injuries and deaths

Recipients will be chosen in March and honored during a gala scheduled for May in Chicago.

“Unintentional injuries are the fourth leading cause of death in the U.S., and every fatality is preventable,” NSC President and CEO Deborah A.P. Hersman said in a press release. “Saving lives requires dedicated individuals, groups and organizations. The Green Cross for Safety nominees will have a passion for safety and a track record of accomplishment.”
