NSC presents USG Corp. with 2016 Robert W. Campbell Award

Anaheim, CA – USG Corp. is the recipient of the 2016 Robert W. Campbell Award, presented annually to an organization that successfully integrates environmental, health and safety management with business operations. The organization accepted the award Monday during the 2016 NSC Congress & Expo.

USG was selected in part because of its dedication to employee engagement, which helped the organization establish a lost-time injury rate 17 times better than industry average, according to NSC. No small feat, as nearly 9,000 employees in 30 countries work for USG.

NSC Board of Directors Chairman John Surma praised USG for its commitment to safety.

“USG is deserving of this great award for a variety of reasons,” Surma said. “Its safety results in multiple categories are outstanding. It has won safety awards in three different sectors, and USG has demonstrated sustainable practices that are measurably successful.

“However, the most significant reason that USG collected the Campbell Award is its success in chasing the Holy Grail of safety: employee engagement. … USG has established and maintained an admirable safety culture. When you have people empowered to protect themselves and their colleagues, you have created a workplace that should be recognized and replicated.”

Justin Dugas, USG director of safety and health, said the award is “a huge honor” for the company.

“The Campbell Award embodies the integration of EH&S and business operations. For USG, that has been our philosophy since the beginning,” Dugas said. “We would not be where we are today if not for the safety program we put in place over the years.”
