Atlanta – A new NIOSH alert (.pdf file) is aimed at workers who operate, service or work near skid-steer loaders.

Skid-steer loaders are commonly used in agriculture and construction for materials handling and excavation. The alert describes six deaths involving skid-steer loaders and offers safety recommendations, including:

      • Stay seated when operating the loader controls.
      • Never carry riders.
      • Regularly inspect and maintain safety devices.
