The Consumer Product Safety Commission offers comprehensive guidelines and a safety checklist in its Outdoor Home Playground Safety Handbook (.pdf file). The handbook covers everything from anchoring to fall protection.
The National Program for Playground Safety also offers tips, play-area planning and other resources for residential equipment, as well as guidance for child care, elementary schools and youth organizations.
