Rating system evaluates construction safety
Corvallis, OR – A new tool from Oregon State University researchers is intended to help construction employers assess the safety performance of projects during the planning and design phases.
The Sustainable Construction Safety and Health rating system incorporates worker safety into sustainability. The system has 50 elements, each of which is worth a number of credits based on the effectiveness in preventing construction injuries and illnesses. Companies are rated on how many credits their project earns. A high number of credits indicates more attention to safety and health, which should reduce the potential for injuries and illnesses, according to the researchers.
