Guide aimed at increasing visibility of roadside responders

Emmitsburg, MD – A new resource guide (.pdf file) from the U.S. Fire Administration is aimed at improving the safety of roadside emergency responders through increased visibility of emergency vehicles.

The guide provides examples of chevron patterns, reflective decal markings and new arrangements of warning lights intended to make emergency vehicles more visible to passing motorists.

“The USFA staff is pleased to release this guide in support of our goal to reduce the number of emergency vehicle crashes and injuries to all emergency first responders,” agency administrator Ernest Mitchell said in a press release.

USFA developed the guide with the support of the National Institute of Justice and in partnership with the Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemen’s Association’s Emergency Responder Safety Institute.
