Safety stand-down on falls set for Sept. 3 in Midwest

Kansas City, MO – Construction sites throughout four Midwest states will be participating in an OSHA-sponsored safety stand-down Sept. 3 to raise awareness about fall hazards.

Fatal falls are the No. 1 cause of death in the construction industry, accounting for more than one-third of all construction worker deaths, according to OSHA.

More than 300 employers and labor organizations in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska are partnering with OSHA for the stand-down, set to begin at 11 a.m.

“This stand-down underscores the imperative need to identify and address fall safety hazards,” Marcia Drumm, acting OSHA regional administrator in Kansas City, said in a press release. “Fall hazards are preventable and lives can be saved with three simple steps: plan, provide and train.”
