New survey allows nurses to assess workplace risks

Silver Spring, MD – Nurses can evaluate their workplace risks using a free online survey developed by the American Nurses Association and Pfizer.

According to ANA, the free HealthyNurse Health Risk Appraisal, launched Nov. 18, takes about 20-30 minutes to complete and is compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. It guides nurses through a series of questions regarding demographics; work environment; and health, safety and wellness. After completing the survey, nurses are given their results, which they can compare to both the national average and the ideal standard.

The survey will continue to accumulate data, which ANA said would help track trends and set policy and advocacy priorities and strategies.

Accompanying the survey is an interactive website to help teach survey respondents about fitness, nutrition, stress management, health screenings, sleep, and tobacco and alcohol use. The information provided will be based on the respondents’ interests, workplace conditions and survey results.

The survey is part of ANA’s HealthyNurse program, which focuses on self-care aimed at keeping nurses physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually healthy.
