FMCSA extends comment period on safety ratings website

Washington – The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is extending to Jan. 21 the comment period on a proposal to change the design of its truck and bus carrier safety ratings website.

The Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety on Dec. 6 requested FMCSA extend the comment period by 30 days, citing the complexity of the Compliance, Safety, Accountability program and the amount of time necessary to assess how the proposed changes to the program’s website might affect the public’s understanding of the program. FMCSA said it chose to grant only a 15-day extension because of the length of the original comment period – 60 days – and because it hosted three webinars explaining the changes.

The proposed changes would incorporate data not currently on the site, such as information on compliance review records and licensing and insurance information.
