FMCSA extends HOS rule comment period

Washington – The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration on May 9 placed four additional research documents in the docket concerning hours of service for commercial motor vehicle drivers and extended the comment period of a related notice of proposed rulemaking (.pdf file).

According to a notice (.pdf file) published in the Federal Register, the agency reopened a public comment period for its NPRM to revise HOS regulations for drivers of property-carrying CMVs. FMCSA officials said they want to allow review of the research for possible consideration in drafting a final rule. Officials said the comment period ends June 8, after which a final rule for HOS can be published at any time.
