FMCSA places motor carrier out of service after fatal crash

Washington – A motorcoach carrier involved in a fatal crash near Fredericksburg, VA, on May 31 was issued an unsatisfactory rating and placed out of service, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration said June 2.

According to a press release, North Carolina-based Sky Express Inc. was placed out of service for violating multiple federal safety regulations, such as driver qualification requirements, drug and alcohol compliance, hours of service, and vehicle maintenance.

The National Transportation Safety Board, FMCSA and Virginia State Police are investigating the crash, which resulted in four deaths and multiple injuries to passengers.
