Illinois opens new emergency center for private sector

Springfield, IL – A new Business Emergency Operations Center opened Oct. 26 at the Illinois State Emergency Operations Center to help the private sector communicate with state emergency management officials and improve response to major disasters.

The new center will harness information available through the private sector and coordinate it with response and recovery actions developed in the SEOC, Illinois officials said.

The BEOC will be activated for the first time during the state’s earthquake exercise, scheduled for Nov. 15-17, according to a press release. The site is located near the State Incident Response Center, where the Illinois Emergency Management Agency coordinates its response to disasters with representatives from state and federal agencies.
