MSHA outlines policy on inert gas

The Mine Safety and Health Administration last week issued guidance for sampling sealed areas of mines where inert gas has been injected.

The program policy letter directs mine operators to re-evaluate sampling locations if they plan to inject inert gas into a sealed area to maintain an inert atmosphere. MSHA said it has investigated several cases of ineffective sampling.
