Obama nominates Foxx as Secretary of Transportation

Washington – President Barack Obama on April 29 nominated Anthony Foxx to replace Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood.

LaHood announced on Jan. 29 that he would not return for a second term. Foxx is the mayor of Charlotte, NC.

In a speech announcing the nomination, Obama said Foxx’s experience with investing in Charlotte’s infrastructure makes him an ideal candidate to helm the president’s “fix-it-first” initiative, created to address the most needed upgrades and repairs in the country’s transportation system.

Foxx's nomination must be confirmed by the Senate.
