Organizations support DOT's bicycle and pedestrian initiatives

Some 275 organizations on May 28 presented Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood with a letter of support for inclusion of bicycle and pedestrian safety initiatives in the Department of Transportation's policy statement for related regulations.

The letter (.pdf file) thanks DOT for supporting bicycle and pedestrian access in its policy statement, released in March, that incorporates safe and convenient walking and bicycling facilities into transportation projects.

The letter states that LaHood has helped raise the profile of bicycling and walking as an important component of the nation's transportation system to improve safety, create more livable communities, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and create opportunities for Americans to be physically active.
