OSHA seeks large fine for trailer manufacturers
Sumner, TX – OSHA is seeking to fine two Texas manufacturers almost $950,000 for unguarded machinery, fall hazards, accumulations of potentially hazardous dust and failure to provide eye protection, the agency announced Sept. 27.
PJ Trailers Manufacturing Co. Inc. (.pdf file) and Delco Trailers Co. Inc. (.pdf file) (which is owned by PJ Trailers) were issued 46 citations, including seven willful and 26 serious violations. The two companies share a president, management, worksite, human resources department, and safety and health manager, according to OSHA.
OSHA’s Dallas area office inspected the facility after receiving a complaint about the lack of protection from rotating machinery parts and exposure to welding fumes and high noise levels.
Both companies previously have been cited by OSHA for similar hazards. Since 2008, at least 15 of their employees have suffered eye injuries, OSHA said.
This penalty comes two weeks after OSHA proposed a $917,000 fine against an adhesive manufacturer in Boston.
