Prepare for wildfires, organizations urge

Quincy, MA – In light of recent wildfires raging throughout Texas, fire protection organizations are urging residents to be prepared for possible evacuation.

Developed by the National Fire Protection Association’s Firewise Communities Program and the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the Ready, Set, Go! program teaches residents to address the major phases of wildfire safety with the following steps:

  • Ready – Prepare long before the threat of a wildfire by assembling emergency supplies and planning an escape route with family members.
  • Set – Pay attention to local media for updated information on wildfires, and gather family and pets to be ready to evacuate.
  • Go – When the evacuation word is given, do not hesitate – immediately execute your plan and stay away from your home until an all-clear is given.
