Obama nominates Feinberg to lead Federal Railroad Administration

June 5, 2015

Washington – President Barack Obama has nominated Sarah Feinberg as administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration.

Feinberg has served as FRA’s acting administrator since January. She filled the void left by former FRA Administrator Joseph C. Szabo, who stepped down at the end of 2014. The Senate will decide whether to confirm Feinberg’s nomination.

Before joining FRA, Feinberg served as chief of staff at the Department of Transportation from 2013 to 2014. Other positions she has held include policy and crisis communications director at Facebook, senior advisor to the chief of staff at the White House, and communications director for the House Democratic Caucus.

Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx described Feinberg as a “steady and capable” leader. He praised her response to a recent Amtrak derailment in Philadelphia.

“Her attention to detail and passion for the work continues to impress not just me, but safety experts, members of Congress and the staff at FRA,” Foxx said in a press release. “FRA will benefit from her ability to cut red tape and get things done.”
