Young worker safety

October 30, 2013

What is the best way to get young people interested in worker safety? According to some people, it’s to get animated.

Safety+Health recently wrote about two unrelated campaigns using similar approaches to educate young people on occupational safety.

The first campaign, from the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (also known as EU-OSHA), uses an animated cartoon character named Napo to teach 7- to 11-year-olds about workplace safety and health issues.

The other approach, from the Australian Capital Territory’s workplace safety enforcement agency, features comic book-styled superheroes battling workplace hazard villains to educate 15- to 24-year-old workers about workplace dangers.

Do you think either of these efforts is effective? Or are there better ways to reach out to young workers and young children about workplace hazards? Let me know in the comments section below.
