Washington – A new fact sheet from OSHA is intended to protect residential construction workers operating in confined spaces such as attics, basements and crawl spaces.
Washington – In response to requests from the construction industry, OSHA is delaying full enforcement of its recently promulgated Confined Spaces in Construction Standard to allow employers additional time to comply with the rule.
Washington – More than 20 years after OSHA issued a standard to regulate confined spaces in general industry, the agency has issued a similar rule specific to the construction industry.
Washington – OSHA’s final rule on confined spaces in construction is being reviewed by the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs. The review is one of the final steps required before OSHA can formally publish the rule.
OSHA statistics show that approximately 90 workers die from confined space-related incidents every year. One expert says these incidents continue to occur because many workers and employers don't know what confined spaces actually are, the dangers that lurk inside, and the safeguards that need to be in place.
Washington – OSHA expects to issue highly anticipated proposed rules for its Silica and Injury and Illness Prevention Program standards within the next few months, according to the Spring Regulatory Agenda, published July 3.
