Rosemont, IL – The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Orthopaedic Trauma Association are collaborating on a new public service campaign intended to help prevent falls among seniors.
“Home Safety is Bone Safety,” launched March 4, aims to help seniors maintain active lifestyles and avoid injury.
As part of the effort, the groups released a guide that includes information about fall-proofing homes. Other topics addressed include how to properly get up from a fall, factors that increase the risk of falls (such as osteoporosis and inadequate footwear) and lifestyle choices that can help older adults maintain strong bones.
