Washington – Beginning May 21, interstate truck and bus drivers must use only government-approved medical examiners to certify that they meet the physical fitness requirements for operating commercial vehicles.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced in 2012 that it would establish a national registry to track medical providers who have been trained and tested on FMCSA’s physical qualification standards for commercial truck and bus drivers.
Drivers can search the registry for examiners by city and state. Medical examiner certificates must be renewed annually or every two years, depending on the driver’s health status.
