Washington – The Department of Transportation is encouraging stakeholders to provide feedback on the MAP-21 Comprehensive Truck Size and Weight Limits Study.
DOT was required to compile the report as part of MAP-21, the surface transportation funding bill that was signed into law in July 2012. A final report had been scheduled for release in November but was pushed back to 2015 because of “the current status and the scope and importance of the task at hand,” DOT officials said in an email.
Congress could use the final report to help decide whether to increase federal limits on truck size and weight. In April, Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety announced its opposition to any increases in truck size and weight limits, citing concerns about roadway safety and the study's accuracy.
The public docket is open to any interested parties.
