The National Safety Council and five other national organizations have released a statement urging the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to adopt recommendations to provide additional funding to states that pass tougher traffic safety laws, as part of the next surface transportation reauthorization bill.
The organizations – including AAA, Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, the Governors Highway Safety Association, Mothers Against Drunk Driving and Safe Kids Worldwide – have developed improvements to the grant qualification criteria aimed at encouraging states to enact optimal laws that reduce impaired driving, distracted driving, and teen driving-related crashes.
