EPA issues second extension for comments on ‘restricted use’ pesticide rule

Washington – The Environmental Protection Agency once again has extended the comment period for a proposed rule that would create stronger standards for workers who handle “restricted use” pesticides.

Stakeholders now have until Jan. 22 to comment on the proposal. The comment period initially was scheduled to close in November, but was extended to Dec. 23.

The proposed rule – which pertains to pesticides not available to the general public – would set a minimum age of 18 for certified applicators, require certification renewals every three years, and require special certification for workers using high-risk application methods.
