Portland, OR – The forestry and logging industry in Oregon, together with the transportation industry, accounted for 30 of the 62 worker fatalities recorded by the Oregon Occupational Fatality and Assessment and Control Evaluation Program in 2014, according to OR-FACE’s recently published annual report.
Sixteen of the 62 deaths were the result of contact with an object or equipment, while violence and motor vehicle incidents each resulted in 11 deaths, the report states. Other findings from the report:
- Sixteen worker fatalities occurred in the forestry/logging industry.
- 14 deaths were recorded in transportation.
- The construction industry experienced eight worker deaths.
- 3 fatalities involved workers younger than 25.
The total number of deaths in Oregon represents a rate of 3.4 fatalities per 100,000 workers, the same as the national rate.
