Communication tower association releases video on anchor corrosion

Watertown, SD – A new safety video from the National Association of Tower Erectors highlights the conditions and factors that contribute to anchor corrosion on guyed towers.

These towers are secured by anchors that typically are buried below grade and set in concrete blocks. The video offers options to help alleviate or eliminate anchor corrosion.

“Anchor corrosion is an out-of-sight, out-of-mind issue that plagues guyed towers all across the country,” Miles Mellor, president of Sioux Falls, SD-based Kilowatt Inc., said in the video. “Over time and in the right conditions, anchors can corrode and ultimately can lead to the tower collapse.”

The video is part of NATE’s Climber Connection campaign, which advocates safe work practices for tower workers. The association asks climbers and other industry stakeholders to post the video on social media websites using the hashtag #ClimberConnection.
