Wigston, England — The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, in conjunction with the World Travel and Tourism Council, has issued guidance intended to help employers in the travel and tourism industry ensure a safe return to work for employees – as well as the safety of travelers – amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The guidance is part of the organizations’ effort to ensure a safe recovery for the travel and tourism sector. It consists of six documents:

  • A returning safely guide
  • A risk assessments guide
  • A COVID-19 ergonomics fact sheet
  • A fact sheet on maintaining good leadership principles
  • A fact sheet on mental health and well-being – working from home
  • A remote workers guide

“Restarting operations isn’t something which can happen overnight,” IOSH Chief Executive Bev Messinger said in a recent release. “There needs to be a planned, risk-controlled approach – based on strong leadership, worker involvement, and sound health and safety advice – to ensure safe people, workplaces, systems and equipment.”
