Offshore safety agency says text notification system has more than 7,000 subscribers

Washington — In the more than 18 months since the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement unveiled its free BSEE!Safe text message alert system, the agency reports it has supplied links to BSEE safety alerts and bulletins covering offshore oil and gas work on the Outer Continental Shelf to over 7,000 subscribers.

Through BSEE!Safe, which launched in May 2019, BSEE has sent text messages directing subscribers to 61 safety alerts and bulletins, the agency says in a recent press release. The resources provide lessons learned from industry incidents and near misses, as well as recommendations to help mitigate future occurrences.

“Providing tools and resources to keep offshore workers safe was the driver of this initiative,” BSEE Director Scott Angelle said in the release. “Seeing the rise in BSEE!Safe text messaging subscriptions confirms the service is critical for offshore safety.”
