Jennifer Homendy is new NTSB chair

Washington — The Senate confirmed Jennifer Homendy as the new chair of the National Transportation Safety Board with a voice vote Aug. 9.

Homendy, who has served as an NTSB member since August 2018, takes over for acting chair Bruce Landsberg. She succeeds Robert Sumwalt, who served as NTSB chair from August 2017 until retiring in June.

Homendy has worked in transportation safety for more than 25 years, including 14 as Democratic staff director for the House Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee.

President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate Homendy for the post May 19, and the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee advanced her nomination Aug. 4.
