NSC announces scholarship recipients

New Orleans — The National Safety Council recognized 20 college students with five different scholarships Tuesday at the National Awards Ceremony during the 2023 NSC Safety Congress & Expo

NSC honored the five winners of the Diversity in Safety Scholarship, a $5,000 annual award for up to four years. The honorees:

  • Suhas Sudhir Bharadwaj, Auburn University
  • Nyala Brooks, Lander University
  • Kelley Anne Severinson, University of Utah
  • Rudy Solano, Oklahoma State University
  • Chiemezie Anthony Udemba, Ohio State University

This year, two sponsors awarded six Diversity in Safety Scholarship recipients with a one-time award of $5,000.

Amentum honored North Carolina A&T State University students Amaya Fisher, Lillian Johnson, Marcus Rayner and Brian Williams.

Jacobs presented awards to Taylor Foster (Arizona State University) and Brittany Metoxen (Columbia Southern University).

NSC also recognized five Women in Safety Scholarship recipients with a $5,000 annual award for up to four years: Brie Birkenbuel (Montana Technological University), Madelyn Hackney (Murray State University), Lisa Markey (Athens State University), Kayla Michalowski (Elgin Community College) and Karena O’Bryan (Murray State University). 

Lilly-Ana van Gaal of Southeastern Oklahoma State University received the Lorraine Pack Memorial Scholarship, presented annually to female students seeking a career in environmental, health and safety. The award is a one-time, $2,000 scholarship. 

Anslee Boyd (Mississippi State University), Christopher Lewis (Oklahoma Panhandle State University) and Tucker Collins Sharp (Murray State University) won NSC Congress & Expo scholarships
