Next week: The National Stand-Down to Prevent Struck-By Incidents

Silver Spring, MD — Employers are encouraged to pause work to talk about struck-by hazard recognition and prevention during the sixth annual National Stand-Down to Prevent Struck-by Incidents, set for April 21-25.

Struck-by incidents are the second leading cause of death among construction workers and the leading cause of nonfatal injuries in the construction industry, according to CPWR – The Center for Construction Research and Training.

The theme for this year’s stand-down is “Create a Sphere of Safety.” On its website, CPWR has more than 50 different resources – some available in Spanish – for employers taking part in the stand-down. They include toolbox talks, videos, safety alerts and presentations.

CPWR, along with the American Road & Transportation Builders Association and the National Occupational Research Agenda for Construction Sector Council’s Struck-By Work Group, is set to kick off this year’s event with the Technologies to Improve Work Zone Safety webinar on April 21.

On April 23, the National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse and the Federal Highway Administration will host a webinar on work zone speed safety cameras.
