Washington — Indoor and outdoor workers exposed to excessive heat can find safety tips in a newly released OSHA video.
In its latest OSHA Minute with Marlis, the agency says employers should educate employees on the hazards of heat exposure and heat illness prevention, as well as have an emergency action plan.
To prevent heat-related injuries and illnesses, workers should:
- Take frequent breaks.
- Stay hydrated.
- Take time to recover from the heat by resting in the shade or a cool place.
- Know the signs of heat illness, which include fainting, dizziness, nausea and muscle spasms.
“Act quickly,” the video says. “And when in doubt, call 911.”
