Washington — Are you aware of any recent revisions or updates to the worker heat protection rules in your state? If so, the Natural Resources Defense Council wants to know.
NRDC has developed an interactive map that provides information on state-level standards aimed at protecting workers from excessive heat.
The map shows that California, Colorado, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, Oregon and Washington each have some form of standard, although protections may differ. For example, Minnesota’s standard covers indoor workers, the resource states, while Colorado’s applies to agricultural employees.
Clicking on a state without worker heat protections reveals an estimate of how many workers in high-risk industries the state has.
“Extreme heat poses a range of potentially debilitating or deadly threats to workers,” NRDC says. “Every summer is becoming more dangerous for workers as average temperatures increase and extreme heat events become longer, more frequent and more severe.”
