Employers who are responsible for keeping facility workers safe are becoming more proactive, says Wesley Doyle, marketing manager for Kee Safety.
“Rather than addressing risks after incidents,” Doyle said, “employers are using data and real-time observation to identify patterns before injuries occur.”
He’s also found that they’re placing a “stronger emphasis on collaboration between safety teams, engineers and maintenance staff to build prevention directly into daily processes.”
It’s a shift toward creating a culture of “awareness, accountability and continuous improvement.”
However, he noted, “safety needs to evolve with the work.” With expanding operations and equipment changes, Doyle said it’s not uncommon for new risks to go undetected until an incident occurs.
That’s why, when asked what he wishes workers and employers better understood about facility safety, Doyle said: “Employers and workers should approach safety as an ongoing conversation rather than a fixed checklist. Regular reviews, updated training and open communication ensure every team member understands how to recognize and address hazards before they lead to injury.”
