Washington – The Environmental Protection Agency has launched a tool that aims to provide easier access to chemical safety and health data.
ChemView contains information on chemicals regulated under the Toxic Substances Control Act, as well as access to EPA assessments and hazard characterizations on those chemicals. The tool allows users to search by a chemical’s name, use, or health or environmental effect.
“This online tool will improve access to chemical health and safety information, increase public dialogue and awareness, and help viewers choose safer ingredients used in everyday products,” James Jones, assistant administrator for EPA’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention, said in a press release.
In the near future, EPA intends to add more chemicals to the database, as well as information such as chemical functionality and links. Once fully updated, ChemView will have data on thousands of chemicals, the press release states.
