What is the federal government’s role in regulating automated and self-driving vehicles? The National Safety Council recently submitted comments to the Department of Transportation on a policy proposed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, expressing support for parts of the policy and identifying potential gaps. And on Nov. 16, NSC President and CEO Deborah A.P. Hersman testified before the Senate Appropriations Committee’s Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Subcommittee. “If safety for the traveling public is the ultimate goal, advanced technology provides the most promising opportunity to achieve that outcome,” Hersman said in her remarks.
