Washington – OSHA recently announced that $4.6 million is available to improve worker health and safety through the Susan Harwood Training Grant Program.
Among those eligible for the funding are nonprofit organizations, employer associations, labor unions, joint labor and management associations, Native American tribes, and colleges and universities. The grants fund interactive training programs and other resources targeted to workers and employers in several groups, including:
- Small businesses
- Industries with high rates of injuries, illnesses and fatalities
- Vulnerable workers, including temporary workers and those with limited English proficiency
Interested parties are advised to apply for the grants as soon as possible. The funding is divided into Targeted Topic Training grants and Capacity Building grants. The deadline to apply is June 28.
“Ensuring that all workers are safe on the job is a top priority for the Labor Department,” Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez said in a press release. “The Susan Harwood training grants help equip vulnerable workers and their employers with the information and knowledge they need to identify and prevent injuries.”
