Rochester, MN – Work schedules may make it harder for people to live a healthy lifestyle, according to the results of a national survey from Mayo Clinic.
Researchers surveyed about 1,000 adults in December about their health habits, as part of the clinic’s inaugural National Health Check-Up. Results indicated that 22 percent of respondents said their work schedule was the leading barrier to staying healthy. This response was especially prominent among men in the Northeastern United States, the survey results show. The cost of healthy food, caring for other family members and not getting enough sleep were among the other barriers cited by the respondents.
Additional highlights from the survey include:
- Most adults agreed that they will age better than their parents.
- 93 percent of women and 81 percent of men said they discuss health-related topics with friends.
- More than half of respondents said they will take steps, such as eating a healthier diet or getting more sleep, to improve health.
