Memorial Day weekend to yield 400 fatalities, NSC estimates

The National Safety Council estimates that 383 people will be killed in motor vehicle-related incidents this holiday weekend. Another 46,300 will receive injuries severe enough to require medical consultation. If road travel is part of your Memorial Day plans, please keep the following in mind:

  • Designate a sober driver or take alternate transportation if you consume alcohol.
  • Place children in age-appropriate safety seats
  • Don’t use cell phones or other electronic devices – either hands-free or handheld – when driving.
  • Reduce your speed.
  • Drive defensively and exercise caution, especially during bad weather.
