The National Safety Council has released its traffic fatality estimates for the Christmas and New Year’s holiday periods. NSC estimates 366 deaths and an additional 39,200 injuries requiring medical attention may occur because of car crashes during the upcoming Christmas holiday period (6 p.m. on Dec. 24 through 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 28.) An estimated 421 deaths and 45,000 injuries requiring medical attention may occur during the New Year’s holiday period (6 p.m. on Dec. 31 through 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 4).
