The cost of standing desks

Desk jobs can be real killers, and standing desks are becoming more and more popular. But would you pay $4,000 for one?

That’s the cost for one of Stir’s “smart” desks. At first glance, the Kinetic Desk looks like a regular desk with maybe a smart phone attached to it, but there’s a bit more to it than that. Its software rises and lowers the desk to take its user from sitting to standing and back down again. This can be independent of your commands – the desk “invites you to move” by slowly rising or lowering based on the length of time you’ve spent sitting or standing.

Stir’s desk can track calories burned from standing, learn and adjust to your preferences, and recognize whether you are at the desk or away. Still, at upward of 8 times the cost of a “regular” adjustable desk, the price tag seems a bit steep to me.
