Washington – The Environmental Protection Agency has added content and updated other features on ChemView, the agency’s online resource for information about chemicals regulated under the Toxic Substances Control Act.
EPA launched the site in 2013 as a free toolkit to display chemical health and safety information for workers and community members alike. Users may search for chemicals by name, use or hazard effect, among other options.
The recent updates improve the display and content for Chemical Data Reporting information, EPA said, and a new link shows pollution prevention information as part of the Toxics Release Inventory program. The updated database covers nearly 10,000 chemicals.
EPA also has created a survey to help guide the next round of improvements to ChemView. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
“In the absence of TSCA reform, EPA is moving ahead to improve access to chemical health and safety information, and increase the dialogue to help the public choose safer ingredients used in everyday products,” James Jones, assistant administrator for EPA’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention, said in a press release.
