This subsector consists of establishments that manufacture metal structures through processes such as 
forging, bending, forming, welding and assembling. More than 1.3 million people worked in the fabricated metal product manufacturing industry in 2011, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That year, approximately 74,400 recordable injuries occurred at a rate of 5.6 per 100 full-time workers. For cases involving days away from work, job restriction or transfer, the rate was 2.6.
