Washington – More than 1 out of 3 American workers may experience chronic work stress, according to the results of a new survey (.pdf file) from the American Psychological Association’s Center for Organizational Excellence.
Conducted Jan. 9-21, the survey of 1,501 adults from a variety of industries found top factors contributing to stress were low salaries, lack of opportunity for advancement and heavy workloads.
Although almost 70 percent of respondents expressed satisfaction with their employer’s safety and health practices, only 36 percent reported their employer provided adequate resources to manage stress. Other issues for workers included feeling undervalued, unfair performance evaluation criteria and lack of opportunities for input at work.
