MSHA announces survey to measure miners’ ‘voice’

Washington – As part of a pilot study by the Department of Labor, the Mine Safety and Health Administration has proposed (.pdf file) a survey (.pdf file) to measure workers’ “voice” in mining workplaces.

DOL defines voice in the workplace as the “workers’ ability to access information on their rights in the workplace, their understanding of those rights, and their ability to exercise these rights without fear of discrimination or retaliation.”

Written comments on MSHA’s survey are due March 19.
