GHSA creates position for liaison program

Washington – The Governors Highway Safety Association recently named Lowell Porter national law enforcement liaison program manager, a new position funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The program is designed to establish stronger connections among law enforcement, state-level and local-level transportation programs, and the 10 regional NHTSA offices, according to a GHSA press release.

Law enforcement liaisons in the program collaborate with State Highway Safety Offices to develop Strategic Highway Safety Plans and implement traffic enforcement initiatives. Strategic Highway Safety Plans “provide a comprehensive framework for reducing highway fatalities and serious injuries on all public roads,” according to the Federal Highway Administration.
